‘Robert Byrne
Teacher at Yogareal, Albert Park. Recognised by many teachers as one of the most experienced teachers in Melbourne.
Why do yoga?
To have your life fulfilled, to have everything in your life come together.
Who is it suitable for?
Everyone, all ages.
What does your Ashtanga-based lineage offer?
Yogareal is a unique style of yoga because it is a strong dynamic practice with understanding and heart. All these qualities need to be there for the process of yoga to unfold fully.
How did you discover yoga and what training did you do?
I saw my vulnerabilities and inadequacies, and made a commitment to myself to resolve that situation. For training, I spent a year traveling with my guru in the US in 1979. After he died, I went to the Himalayas and studied with a guru there.
Why is it so popular?
Yoga was always essential, but more so now, because people are so far from their centre and their life force or their vitality.
What do beginners find the hardest?
Realising how tight their body is and how fragmented their mind is.
What did you find hardest as a beginner?
I don’t think I found anything “hardest”, I felt tremendous affinity. I felt more the opposite.
How does yoga change you?
It has changed my life. My Insecurities and inadequacies have dissolved as such, and stability, openness and fulfilment have come in their place.’
